Witness

This series of artwork is personal, dealing with the passage of time and memory. In the first three the eyes are the eyes of my children; Nadav and Danielle; as they witness my life. Some of the paintings are painted on burlap--a cloth used in ancient cultures in mourning for the dead. In many traditions, a bird delivers the souls from this life to the next. Various clay colors found in Maryland are employed as a painting medium to symbolize the return of our bodies to the earth after death.

The next two are mono prints based on photographs from my photo album, with images of family and  Warsaw after the second world war.
